In the histories of world's underclass struggles for independence and economic opportunities, only in the Philippines you can find the overwhelming majority have adopted the fatalistic, cynical acceptance and subservience... terrorized, cheated, hoodwinked, at times even murdered by the same group of merciless fellow countrymen. Relying mainly on the patronage of morsels trickled down from the billions of pesos stolen from the government coffers, we have collectively turned into spineless cowardly dogs deserving and condemned to the kind of government and perpetual economic paupers we are. NO MORE. It is time to wake up, rise to the challenge and claim again the loss courage, dignity and aspirations that was stolen by the ruling class from the heroic poor and middle class of Filipinos during the First Philippine Revolution, Edsa 1 and Edsa 2!

THE AXIS OF EVIL
After 9/11, in 2001, American president George W. Bush, in his speech to the US Congress, described the unholy alliance of Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the "Axis of Evil" an exact description of the "ruling class" dominating the Philippine social, political and economic conditions, we took the liberty of using the same epithet to identify the current oppressors and leeches of a beautiful nation Jose P. Rizal once called "The Pearl of the Orient Seas". Not anymore. The country has now devolved into abyss of griding poverty where 70% or 56 million of its 80 million citizens are classified as poor, undernourished or malnourished. Fifty percent missed at least a meal everyday. That would be approximately 28 million Filipinos having a bad day 365 days a year! Every day an unprecedented thousands of citizens are desiring to leave or leaving to seek and venture into uncertainties and trepidations in another country. As of the last count around 10 million Filipinos have left the country due to lack of honorable, sustainable jobs and absence of a secured future, the largest voluntary diaspora of a group of people in the history of the mankind!
The Axis of Evil" is the curse and plague that have visited the land and for decades brought down the nation as the "sick man" and"laughing stock of Asia". But names don't really damage or hurt that much. The tragedies are the stolen dreams, aspirations and rightful pursuit of happiness of every poor disenfranchised miserable Filipino.
In the offing, silently and surely, the disconcerting and tragic scenario in the Philippines is now unfolding and we should be aware of this dreadful societal transformation happenning right before our eyes for it involves millions of our children, the future of our beloved Motherland: Should the present economic and political conditions allowed to continue existing in the Philippines, an unspeakable tragic consequence awaits the future generations of Filipinos. A country where majority of our youth, who are ever hungry, dirt poor, malnourished, undernourished and bereft of good education will wallow into stunted mental and physical growth and development. Henceforth these Filipino children in millions will be deprived of the opportunities to develop, nurture and mature to their outmost capacity of a mentally and physically healthy educated human adults. Thanks to the Axis of Evil, by their wholesale, rampant corruption and predatory systematic accumulation of the nation's wealth, sooner than anticipated, they will rule over a nation of retarded Filipino adults, a mass of damaged, psychologically and physically deficient citizens, dumb and incapable of discerning their sorry plight and forever prisoners of servitude and abuses imposed and perpetuated by the insatiable ruling class.
The Evil Ruling Class
Oligarchic Political Dynasties and Traditional Politicians
In keeping up with political dynasties, we must take heed of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words as he said, "The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power(s) to the point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism – ownership of government by an individual, or group of individuals controlling private power."
In every province, city and town in the Philippines, it is an accepted fact that very few family names and personalities dominate the political, commercial and social fabric of the locality and its activities. Just inquire from any local citizen to name the person who holds office in the provincial capitol or city hall, down to barangay level and normally you'll get the same family names. Ask again who owns the cockpit arena, the movie houses, the biggest restaurants and marketplace, the logging franchise, hardware stores and even the brothels. And who controls to the daily jueting activites? It's "all in the family".
Unfortunately, most of the political dynasies have their little private armies. They have their empires filled with treasures of the country’s wealth and most precious resources. They have turned what little we have of democracy into a fascist state believing and acting as if they are the sole authority always above the law without moral limits, feeling so superior and turning into beastly barbarians (at times, notably during elections, they do kill each other)– all in the pursuit of power. Filipinos has had enough of these. It is time we rise above the tide and work toward what is right and just for our country. In a big sense, this is all due politics of PATRONAGE, a social cancer of degradation and mendicancy by holding the purse strings of corrupt social services and outright payoff and bribery to the local citizens. The cultural and social fabric of the nation was tied up to outright domination reminiscent of the the days of the warlords of the middle ages or the rough and tumble laws of a contemporary drug lord or Mafia family dominating and controlling a turf. Unfortunately, in the Philippines, its a massive scale where few hundreds of domineering dynastic families and their political cohorts controls all aspects of political, business, social (including the justice and law enforcement) agendas of close to 56-million (70% of 80 million) captive and impoverished citizens.
Politicians should not be regarded as simply agents of the wealthy elite in the Philippines. A political career is often initiated to protect and expand the business interests of the family the politician belongs to. To protect the family welfare powerful families have transformed ‘‘their electoral offices into lasting family assets, building what Filipinos call a ‘‘political dynasty.’’ Whether the politicians are members of the elite or not, throughout their political career politicians need to build, maintain and expand their network with elite families (oligarchs) in their city, province and other parts of the archipelago. Beside the oligarchs there are dozens of wealthy businessmen who through patronage and bribery try to protect their business interests against foreign and national competitors. These unscrupulous businessmen are fully aware that for politicians holding office is ephemeral. In the zero-sum game that Philippine elections are, politicians rely heavily on the support of the elite families and vested interest corrupt businessmen.
Showbiztocracy:
Though elections of show business personalities are not endemic to the Philippine political scene, the transformation and accomodation of showbiztocracy in the Philippines reached its unprecedented heights by the election of a very popular cinema actor Joseph (Erap) Estrada. Many Filipinos were carried away by the fictional characters depicted by Estrada in the movie screen. Without separating fiction from reality, hordes of gullible Filipinos catapulted Estrada hoping that just like in the movies he will be their champion, the hero of the downtrodden. Unfortunately, to the country's grave misfortune, he was elected to the presidency. Thereafter the most sordid, immoral and scandalous era enveloped the nation. Thanks to Edsa II, the scoundrels, clowns and plunderers were exposed and kicked out of Malacanang. During and after Estrada, numerous celebrities and sports personalities found another opportunity not only to expand their resumes rather they discovered an easy and guaranteed way of amassing wealth and political power. The downside of their election was that most were not qualified to the tasks as elected officials. Majority of these movie actors and sport personalities turned politicians have acquired the same propensities of becoming crooks and looters with a vengeance. The immoral, amoral and criminal excesses of Estrada and his two sons became the yardstick of many movie and sport personalities who followed or tried to emulate his footsteps. The defeat of Fernando Poe, Jr., another popular movie star, during the last presidential elections could have been a good outcome from a selection of two evils, the normal limited choices a Filipino voter encounters in every election. A president Poe surely would have been a pathetic puppet of a devious and criminal minded Estrada clan whose primary and ultimate agenda is to get away from the plunder case still to be decided. With very few exceptions, all showbiz and sport personalities elected to a public office has turned out to be a dud with no redeeming social values contributed to the country except their insatiable greeds, over shameless bloated egos, what a tremendous expense and waste to the government coffers and an obcene insult to the Filipino sensibilities.
The Anatomy of Evil in the Philippines
"The widespread corruption and nepotism has given the country an unsavory reputation as a patrimonial oligarchic predatory state. In a patrimonial state:" ‘‘Practically everything depends explicitly upon personal considerations: on purely personal connections, favors, promises, and privileges.’’ The terms oligarchic and predatory underscore that in the Philippines the controlling forces are the economic and political oligarchy. The oligarchies plunders without any more regard for the welfare of the citizenry than a predator has for the welfare of its prey.’’
The relationship between politicians and oligarchies, by which the members are the elite whose core activity is not only business, is established by providing the politicians the necessary financial, political and moral support during election campaigns. Politicians are well aware of the expectations of the oligarchies who supported them in their quest for office. By assuring that their allies within the political and economic influence are receiving the favors, they can rely on their support during elections. The politician should repay his debt to the oligarcies in the future in a form virtual accomodation and patronage.
The scariest trend now is the transformation of the traditional politicians (trapos) into oligarchies and vice versa. The most glaring example is the melding by marriage of the Macapagals of Pampanga and Arroyos of Iloilo. Presently, you find the presidency captured under the hands of old political name by which material greed, political power and control are branching out in the Bicol and Visayas Regions where two Arroyos are serving as congressmen, the brother in-law and son of the President. This coming May elections another son (Datu) is running for a congressional office in Bicol. How could a candidate bred and educated in Metro Manila represent a constintuency in Bicol? This alone shows the effrontery of the ruling class in the Philippines. The Garci tapes scandal is another outrageous classic example of political arrogance and disregard of truth, fairness and ethical conduct. Pampanga province in Luzon is under the virtural political hold of the Macapagals and their political puppets like the corrupt Lapids and the notorious gambling mafiosis, the Pinedas. Any good natured honest Filipino will tremble on the prospects of Marcos/Ramualdez, Singson's and Crisologos of the Ilocos Region's destructive political and economic tentacles have spread not only in Metro Manila but in the entire archipelago. Watch out for these names: Macapagal/Arroyo, Joker Arroyo, Osmena, Defensor, Escuerdo, Angara, Honasan, Trillanes, Estrada/Ejercito, Gomez, Garcilliano, Pacquiao, Montano, Artienza, Drillon, Cojuangco/Aquino/Oreta, Revilla, Singson, Atienza, Crisologo, Pineda, Leviste, Dy, Binay, Drillon, Lacson, Sotto, Osmena, Cayetano, Gordon, Pichay, DeVenecia, Recto, Roxas, Jaworski, Zubiri, Cuneta, Asistio, Magsaysay, Espina (Biliran Island) and many many more... We need a total change of political personalities. The present crop of young and old trapos will only perpetuate the cycle of misery and oppression in our beloved country. The above mentioned names belongs to the depraved bottom dwelling, scum eating race of low lifes incapable of principles, morality and concience. They are the persons who would sell their own wives, mothers and daughters to prostitution in a heartbeat just to accomplish their own selfish ends.
This crusade will take time, but time is on hour side. Sooner or later with our perseverance and prayers we will prevail. Just remember what happened to Hitler and Stalin. Goodness will always triumph against evil. Let's man the barricades and throw the rascals out!
